This is the first Hawks Newsletter; we hope you find this monthly publication informative. At some point this newsletter will change from the development news focus below to Association and owner activities as Hawks fills up with homeowners.
About the Developers
Hawks Landing was purchased by Bruce DeSpelder, Heath Investment Properties, and T.W. Property Mgt. this past May.
Bruce DeSpelder is the owner of Sun-N-Snow Construction. Bruce is a General Contractor and Builder of luxury custom homes in the Bellaire, Michigan area, especially along the golf courses of Shanty Creek Resort. Bruce is managing the development aspect of Hawks Landing, which includes the water system, roads, utilities, and landscaping of the common areas.
Heath Investment Properties is owned by Michael Heath, who lives in Gaylord and is also the Realtor for Hawks Landing. Mike will be setting up a sales office in unit 15 which is currently under construction. Mike is the General Mgr. for Hawks Landing Dev. Co. and also manages Hawks' Builder, Northwoods Builders. Mike also built, sold, and has for sale, luxury condominiums at Treetops North Estates. Mike used to help manage the IGA store in town for his father and mother, Pat & Helga Heath, from 1979 - 1985. Bill and Fred Heath are Mike's little brothers.
T.W. Property Mgt. is solely owned by Tim Weir. Tim is an inactive member of Hawks Landing. Tim is currently Director of Purchasing for Jabil Circuit Inc. Tim and Mike worked together for years at Jabil Circuit.
The Hawks Rock
Certainly our current most distinguishable feature is the Hawks Landing entrance rock, which is a 28 ton puddingstone with the Hawks Landing logo laser-etched on both sides. A close friend and business partner of Bruce and Mike came up with the idea, mainly because we were whining that sand-blasted wood signs are so prevelant and we wanted to distinguish our entrance. Mike was a bit hesitant about using a rock until he saw a similar rock at a development south of Atwood, MI that overlooked Lake Michigan. He loved it enough to double the size of what the Atwood development did! Creative Stone Design's Keith Verellen is the artist who helped find our rock and created the artwork on our boulder.
Development News
Wade-Trim's Amy Wolcott is project managing development of the water system and the development in general. Tony Schultz who owns Schultz Well Drilling Inc., installed our wells and will be installing the equipment in our pumphouse. We have two 6" wells and a test well. Our water mains were completed earlier this month. The water system has easily passed all DEQ tests to date. Passing this milestone allows us to finish our roads, which should be done no later than mid-September with Phase I paved. We expect our water system will be available for use by the time we're done with our first construction efforts, unit 15 & 16. Kucharek Excavating is our building our roads.
Our utility providers are: Electric - Great Lakes Energy, Natural Gas - DTE Energy, Phone - Verizon, and Cable - Charter Communications. Gaslight Media of Petoskey, MI is providing us with our wireless network; they are providers to the M-Tech center just a couple of hundred yards from Hawks Landing. We are very close to announcing our security system and landscaping partners.
We expect landscaping for the common areas to start soon. We're planning to plant lots of trees along the perimeter of the property that has been bermed, both deciduous along with a healthy smattering of spruce and firs. Each lot will come with lots of trees and plants as well, see the Lot page for details.
